The University of British Columbia does not have one acceptance rate that accurately describes every applicant. Its two principal campuses—Vancouver and Okanagan—publish different admission figures, and competitiveness also depends on degree choice, academic background and the applicant pool.
UBC’s official 2025–26 enrolment report lists a 60% undergraduate admit rate for Vancouver and 76% for Okanagan. Those are verified UBC-reported numbers, but they cover applications across undergraduate year levels—not only first-time freshmen.
Updated October 15, 2026. Includes the 2025–26 admissions results and verified Fall 2027 application deadlines.
Source: UBC Annual Enrolment Report 2025–26, Table 1.
UBC’s official 2025–26 undergraduate admission report gives Vancouver a 60% admit rate and Okanagan a 76% admit rate. At Vancouver, domestic applicants had a 55% rate and international applicants a 71% rate. At Okanagan, the corresponding figures were 75% and 82%.
The report defines the admit rate as offers of admission to applicants’ preferred degree choice divided by completed applications. It includes undergraduate applicants across year levels, so these figures must not be presented as a verified first-year-only acceptance rate or individual chance of admission.
The relevant primary source is UBC’s 2025–26 Annual Enrolment Report, Table 1, page 13.
UBC Acceptance Rate by Campus and Applicant Group
UBC is often described online as having an acceptance rate around 50% or 55%. Those figures can come from older admission cycles, one campus or a particular applicant group. The university’s own report provides a more useful comparison.
| 2025–26 campus | Domestic applicants | International applicants | All applicants | Overall admission yield |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vancouver | 55% | 71% | 60% | 48% |
| Okanagan | 75% | 82% | 76% | 52% |
The admission yield is the percentage of admitted applicants who subsequently register. It is different from the admit rate. Some students receive offers from several institutions, decide on another campus or cannot enrol because of financial or immigration circumstances.
Visual: Campus and citizenship admission-rate comparison
Rates come from the official 2025–26 report and include undergraduate applicants at multiple year levels.
Does UBC prefer international students?
The international admit rate in the 2025–26 report is numerically higher on both campuses, but that does not demonstrate a general preference for international applicants.
Domestic and international applicants can differ in intended degrees, academic preparation, completed applications and available enrolment spaces. A comparison of aggregate admit rates cannot control for those differences.
A student applying for Vancouver Engineering or Sauder Commerce should not use Okanagan’s 76% average to estimate their chances. Similarly, a high overall campus rate does not mean a competitive degree is easy to enter.
UBC Acceptance Rate Trends: 2021–22 Through 2025–26
The official Annual Enrolment Report provides five years of undergraduate admission rates for each campus. These are more meaningful than comparing figures drawn from unrelated websites.
| Academic year | Vancouver admit rate | Okanagan admit rate | Reporting note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021–22 | 48% | 72% | Official UBC report |
| 2022–23 | 49% | 73% | Official UBC report |
| 2023–24 | 52% | 76% | Official UBC report |
| 2024–25 | 61% | 81% | Official UBC report |
| 2025–26 | 60% | 76% | Latest full annual report |
These figures show that admissions selectivity can shift from year to year. Vancouver’s reported rate increased from 48% in 2021–22 to 60% in 2025–26; Okanagan’s increased from 72% to 76% over the same period, although its rate fell from the previous year.
A reporting-method change worth knowing
UBC notes that a 2024–25 change to its admissions system affected the Vancouver applicant population: certain post-baccalaureate programs and diplomas/certificates were included in 2024–25 and 2025–26 figures that had not been included previously.
Therefore, changes in Vancouver’s reported acceptance rate cannot be attributed entirely to shifts in competition. The underlying reporting group also changed.
How many students applied to Vancouver?
The 2025–26 report’s Vancouver admissions pyramids list 28,478 completed domestic first-choice applications and 13,267 completed international first-choice applications. It reports 15,677 domestic and 9,455 international first-choice admission offers, respectively.
| Vancouver 2025–26 | Domestic | International |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted first-choice applications | 31,378 | 14,683 |
| Completed first-choice applications | 28,478 | 13,267 |
| Admitted to first-choice program | 15,677 | 9,455 |
| Official rounded admit rate | 55% | 71% |
UBC’s official admit-rate denominator uses completed applications, not every submitted application. Counting unfinished applications as rejections would produce a different and incorrect result. UBC also lets applicants select two degree choices, so these first-choice admission counts should not be treated as unique university-wide applicants across all choices.
What GPA Do You Need to Get Into UBC in 2026?
Unlike many U.S. universities, UBC does not publish a universal high school GPA requirement on a 4.0 scale for every undergraduate degree. Its academic review depends on your education system, Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses, degree requirements and competitive admission average.
UBC evaluates applicants against others seeking admission to the same degree. This means a high academic average may be competitive for one program and less competitive for another.
Does UBC require a 3.7 or 3.8 GPA?
No single institution-wide minimum of 3.7, 3.8 or 3.9 was established in UBC’s current official admission requirements. Websites advertising an exact UBC GPA cutoff across all programs often simplify a more complicated process.
Canadian high school applicants are typically evaluated using percentage grades or provincial equivalents. U.S. applicants have requirements associated with their curriculum, while IB, AP, A-level and other international applicants receive curriculum-specific evaluations.
| Academic situation | What UBC evaluates | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| British Columbia Grade 12 student | Required Grade 11 and 12 courses, academic grades and degree-specific prerequisites. | Make sure required English, mathematics and sciences are completed for your intended degree. |
| Canadian high school outside B.C. | Recognized provincial curriculum and grades. | Use the province-specific requirement page. |
| U.S. high school | High school academics and required courses, with optional SAT/ACT. | Do not assume a U.S.-style 4.0 GPA is comparable to every Canadian grading scale. |
| IB Diploma | IB courses, final or predicted grades and degree prerequisites. | Check Higher Level subject requirements for your intended degree. |
| British-patterned A-level | Required A-level/GCSE subjects and grades. | Provide required final documents by curriculum-specific deadlines. |
| University or college transfer | Transferable courses, GPA and applicable prerequisites. | Published minimum transfer GPA is not a guaranteed offer. |
How UBC assesses high school grades
UBC says it considers grades in all academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses, with particular attention to courses relevant to the chosen degree. It also reviews course selection, academic challenge, and whether the student explored appropriate subjects.
The university may exclude certain courses from its admission average if they are unrelated to the degree or are among the student’s lowest eligible grades, according to its academic assessment policies.
Students should therefore avoid comparing an ordinary whole-school average with a university admission average as though the calculations must be identical.
UBC describes admissions as competitive and comparative. Meeting general prerequisites only allows the application to be assessed; a program may require a substantially stronger profile because of the number of applicants and available seats.
UBC’s official explanation of how applications are evaluated.
UBC SAT and ACT Requirements for 2026–27
UBC’s current document-submission guidance allows applicants from the United States to submit SAT or ACT scores if they want them considered. However, the university states that applicants will not be at a disadvantage if they cannot or choose not to submit a score.
SAT
Optional for U.S. applicants
May be submitted as additional academic evidence, but there is no one current UBC-wide minimum SAT score that applies across all degrees.
ACT
Optional for U.S. applicants
Applicants may include ACT results voluntarily. The university does not claim that submitting an ACT score is necessary to be considered fairly.
What SAT score is competitive for UBC?
UBC does not publish a reliable university-wide Fall 2026 SAT middle-50% distribution equivalent to the Common Data Set tables used by many U.S. universities.
An applicant should not treat unsourced figures such as “UBC requires a 1350 SAT” or “the UBC SAT cutoff is 1500” as institutional admission policies. The required academic preparation depends on the curriculum and degree.
Should you submit a strong SAT or ACT score?
If your result strengthens your academic profile, submitting it may make sense. If the score is less representative of your actual coursework and grades, UBC’s optional policy allows an application without it.
Spend time verifying Grade 12 mathematics, science and English prerequisites before focusing only on SAT preparation. A strong SAT score does not automatically replace a missing degree-specific high school course.

UBC Personal Profile: A Major Part of the Admission Decision
UBC’s Personal Profile makes its undergraduate admission process different from a purely grades-based selection model.
Most high school applicants to both campuses must complete a Personal Profile. Exceptions include some specific programs, such as the Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urbanism, Dental Hygiene and Music, which have their own admission requirements.
Why the Personal Profile matters
In 2025–26, UBC scored more than 41,500 Personal Profile reviews, evaluated by almost 300 trained readers drawn from university staff, faculty and alumni.
The official enrolment report estimates that approximately 13% of admitted applicants would not have been admitted under a grades-only model. That figure varies by campus and program.
This is unusually strong evidence that Personal Profile assessment can change outcomes for applicants who meet academic expectations.
What does UBC ask?
The Personal Profile includes short written questions, with word and character limits varying by prompt. Common themes include:
- Who you are and how other people would describe you.
- What matters to you and why.
- Activities, accomplishments and responsibilities you have pursued.
- How you handled a difficult problem or unfamiliar situation.
- What you contributed to your community.
Applicants must also provide two references who know them and can support the information in the profile. UBC may contact these referees.
What activities are worth describing?
School and community involvement
Student government, science clubs, sports, journalism, volunteering, arts or community projects can be useful when you explain your role and what you learned.
Work and family responsibility
Paid work, helping a family business, caring for relatives or looking after younger siblings can demonstrate substantial responsibility. UBC does not require every applicant to have an impressive-looking club title.
How to write a useful response
Start with something concrete. Explain the situation, what you did, what happened, and how it changed your understanding. Use details that another student could not easily copy.
For example, a student who organized a small neighborhood recycling project could explain how they researched the problem, dealt with limited participation and changed their plan. Merely writing “I care about the environment and show leadership” tells a reader very little.
UBC may verify activities and academic information. The university warns that untrue or incomplete information can result in withdrawal of an admission offer or other consequences. Do not fabricate leadership positions or ask someone else to invent personal experiences for you.
UBC’s official Personal Profile prompts and evaluation advice.
Is UBC Computer Science, Engineering or Sauder Harder to Get Into?
UBC’s overall campus admit rates do not establish the acceptance rate for any individual academic program.
Students may apply to broad degree programs such as Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Arts before choosing a particular specialization later. Other programs require additional admission materials from the beginning.
| Degree or program | Important admission distinction | What applicants should investigate |
|---|---|---|
| UBC Vancouver Science | Admission to the BSc does not automatically guarantee a later Computer Science specialization. | First-year degree requirements and specialization placement. |
| UBC Vancouver Engineering | Entry to Applied Science is separate from placement in later engineering specializations. | Math/physics preparation and second-year placement process. |
| UBC Sauder Commerce | Requires a Personal Profile and competitive admission evaluation. | Required Grade 12 subjects, supplemental questions and business fit. |
| UBC Okanagan Engineering | Campus-specific degree admission and academic sequencing apply. | Prerequisites, available specializations and campus fit. |
| UBC Nursing Vancouver | Specific entry pathway with prerequisites and distinct selection. | Current nursing application cycle and eligible year level. |
| UBC Architecture-related design | Some design programs require portfolios or other supplements rather than the standard Personal Profile. | Creative submission and program-specific deadlines. |
| UBC Music | Additional musical or audition evaluation may apply. | Audition arrangements and faculty instructions. |
Does UBC publish a Computer Science acceptance rate?
A separate, university-verified Fall 2026 Vancouver Computer Science specialization acceptance rate was not established from the official materials reviewed here. Computer Science admission pathways can involve both initial faculty admission and a later specialization process.
This is why a website stating that “UBC Computer Science has the same 60% acceptance rate as Vancouver” would be inaccurate.
Sauder School of Business
Sauder’s Bachelor of Commerce requires strong academic preparation and a substantial Personal Profile evaluation. The applicant should pay careful attention to UBC’s degree-specific English and mathematics requirements.
Engineering
Applicants to Bachelor of Applied Science programs should verify relevant mathematics, chemistry and physics prerequisites. A strong general academic record does not compensate for missing a required course unless an approved alternative applies.
Do not choose UBC Okanagan merely because the university-wide admit rate is higher without checking whether it offers the program, specialization and learning environment you actually want. The degree you enter determines future academic options.
UBC Application Deadlines for Fall 2027 Entry
UBC’s 2027–28 undergraduate application cycle opened in early October 2026. The deadlines below are from the university’s official schedule, not inferred from a previous year.
Students can begin applications for September 2027 entry through UBC’s EducationPlannerBC process.
International applicants seeking International Scholars Program awards must submit their UBC application and scholarship application by this deadline.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents wishing to be considered for Presidential Scholars, Centennial Scholars or Beyond Tomorrow awards must meet this application deadline.
Deadline for Winter Session entry beginning September 2027 and for the relevant Summer Session entry under the published general application calendar.
Deadline for English Language Admission Standard evidence and certain Canadian transfer transcripts.
Deadline for required documents from high school applicants educated outside Canada and for U.S. post-secondary applicants under the current schedule.
Most admitted students must accept their offer and pay the acceptance deposit by the specific deadline shown in the offer letter.
Apply for residence by the relevant campus’s first-year guarantee date. If considering both campuses, submit the appropriate separate residence applications.
Required courses must be completed in time to satisfy admission conditions.
The January 15 general admission deadline comes after the November 15 International Scholars Program deadline and the December 1 Canadian entrance-award deadline. Students seeking those awards should prepare significantly earlier.

How to Apply to UBC: Step-by-Step
Choose one or two degree choices
UBC allows you to select a first and second degree choice. For each choice, indicate the campus and degree. Make sure your second choice is a program you would genuinely consider attending.
Check the requirements for your curriculum
Use the official admissions requirements tool for your country, province or education system. Confirm degree-specific subjects before submitting an application.
Prepare the Personal Profile
Most first-year applicants complete short written responses describing achievements, responsibilities and personal development. Ask two appropriate referees for permission to list them.
Apply through EducationPlannerBC
Create or update your EducationPlannerBC profile, complete the UBC application and pay the applicable nonrefundable application fee.
Check the Applicant Service Centre
After applying, use UBC’s Applicant Service Centre to review required documents, deadlines and admission status. UBC primarily communicates through email and the application system.
Respond promptly to an offer
If admitted, accept the offer by the deadline, pay the deposit, apply for residence and begin study-permit steps promptly if applicable.
Application fees
| Applicant group | Published current fee | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Canadian citizen or permanent resident | CAD $78.50 | Nonrefundable under the posted application-fee schedule. |
| International applicant requiring study permit | CAD $173.25 | Nonrefundable; additional degree-specific fees may apply. |
UBC notes that an applicant should not submit a completely new application simply to request changes to a previously submitted application; use the university’s application-change process.
UBC Transfer Acceptance and GPA Requirements
UBC accepts transfer applicants from post-secondary institutions in Canada and internationally. Its public transfer rules provide academic eligibility requirements, but a minimum transfer GPA is not a guarantee of admission to every degree.
Minimum GPA for transfer applicants
The university lists a minimum academic standing of C (60%) or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, typically calculated from the most recent 30 transferable credits. Many competitive degrees require higher averages.
| Transferable credits completed | How UBC generally calculates admission academic performance |
|---|---|
| 0–6 credits | High school average only. |
| 7–23 credits | Combination of high school results and post-secondary GPA. |
| 24–30 credits | GPA based on transferable post-secondary coursework. |
| More than 30 credits | GPA with emphasis on the most recent 30 transferable credits. |
UBC Okanagan’s guaranteed transfer route
UBC publishes a particularly useful transfer pathway at Okanagan. Eligible students may qualify for guaranteed admission to the Okanagan Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Science if they:
- Have a GPA of at least 2.8 across their most recent eight to ten transferable courses.
- Meet the university’s English Language Admission Standard.
- Satisfy the applicable degree-specific transfer requirements.
This is not a general guarantee to every UBC Okanagan degree or to UBC Vancouver.
Before choosing courses at Langara College, Douglas College, Camosun College, Okanagan College or another post-secondary institution, verify their transferability and relevance to your intended UBC degree. Credits that transfer as electives may not satisfy specialized prerequisites or shorten your degree as much as expected.
Official UBC university and college transfer admission requirements.
UBC International Acceptance Rate and English Language Requirements
In 2025–26, the official undergraduate admit rate for international applicants was 71% at Vancouver and 82% at Okanagan, based on UBC’s preferred-degree admissions methodology across undergraduate year levels.
International applicants are reviewed under the requirements appropriate to their educational curriculum, whether that involves U.S. high school courses, IB, A-levels, Indian secondary qualifications or another recognized pathway.
English Language Admission Standard
UBC uses the English Language Admission Standard (ELAS) and provides several ways to satisfy it, including qualifying previous education and recognized language examinations.
| English proficiency exam | Published direct-entry minimum |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | Overall 6.5; no section below 6.0. |
| TOEFL iBT, 0–120 reporting scale | Overall 90; Reading 22, Listening 22, Writing 21, Speaking 21. |
| TOEFL iBT, updated 1–6 reporting scale | Overall 4.5; Reading 4.5, Listening 5, Writing 4.5, Speaking 4. |
| Duolingo English Test | Overall 125; Reading 115, Listening 115, Writing 120, Speaking 120. |
| PTE Academic | Overall 65; each section at least 60. |
| CAEL | Overall 70. |
| Cambridge English accepted qualifications | 180. |
UBC states that the minimum components must be achieved in a single sitting. For the 2027–28 winter entry cycle, accepted language scores must meet the university’s applicable test-date requirements.
International student scholarship deadlines
The International Scholars Program application deadline is November 15, 2026 for Fall 2027 entry. Other merit awards, such as International Major Entrance Scholarships and Outstanding International Student Awards, follow UBC’s published admission and scholarship process.
Receiving an offer does not guarantee Canadian immigration authorization. UBC advises international students to begin study-permit arrangements promptly after accepting admission because processing can take months. Requirements can change, so applicants should review current Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada instructions rather than rely on previous students’ experiences.
UBC Tuition, Financial Planning and Scholarships
The admission rate is only one consideration. UBC has different tuition and living costs by campus, citizenship status, degree and housing arrangement.
Domestic and international tuition rates are not interchangeable, and the cost of attending Vancouver can be substantially different from living in Kelowna.
| Financial planning category | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic undergraduate tuition | 2026–27 per-credit tuition for the degree and campus. | Canadian citizenship or permanent residence can affect tuition classification. |
| International undergraduate tuition | Degree-specific international tuition schedule. | Some professional degrees cost more than standard arts or science degrees. |
| Vancouver housing | Residence fees and available meal plans. | Metro Vancouver has a relatively expensive rental market. |
| Okanagan housing | Campus residence rates and off-campus rental options. | Kelowna offers a different housing and transportation environment. |
| Canadian entrance scholarships | Presidential Scholars, Centennial Scholars and related awards. | Early December 1 admission deadline for certain award consideration. |
| International Scholars Program | Eligibility, financial need and nomination/application process. | November 15 deadline. |
| Government student aid | Federal/provincial student loans and grants where eligible. | Funding processes differ from U.S. FAFSA. |
UBC is a Canadian university. Students from the United States should not assume that UBC uses the same federal FAFSA-based grant and loan system as a U.S. college. Check the university’s U.S. loan guidance and applicable eligibility requirements if you plan to finance your degree through U.S. student loans.
Use UBC’s official undergraduate cost calculator and tuition planning resources before deciding on a campus or degree.
Vancouver vs. Okanagan: Local Advice for Applicants
Both campuses award University of British Columbia degrees, but their locations and daily student experiences are not identical. Choosing between them should be a genuine academic and lifestyle decision.
UBC Vancouver
The Vancouver campus is on Point Grey, west of downtown Vancouver. It is a large academic and research environment with access to extensive campus facilities, surrounding beaches, research opportunities and the broader Metro Vancouver region.
However, students should consider housing availability, commuting time, transit routes and city living costs.
UBC Okanagan
The Okanagan campus is in Kelowna, near the Okanagan Valley’s lakes and mountains. It offers a smaller campus community with distinct academic options and facilities.
Students should research transportation from campus to the wider city, residence options and whether their intended specialization is offered.
Local transit and housing tips for Vancouver
- Check routes to UBC Exchange and estimate travel time at the hour you would normally attend classes.
- Compare on-campus residence with renting in areas such as Kitsilano, Dunbar, Kerrisdale or other connected neighborhoods.
- Do not compare rent alone; include utilities, transit, food, deposits and lease timing.
- Ask whether the particular faculty’s laboratories, studios or classes require frequent travel across campus.
Local transit and housing tips for Kelowna
- Check available BC Transit connections and estimated travel times before renting off campus.
- Consider the costs of travel to and from Kelowna International Airport when planning trips home.
- Review winter weather, class schedules and access to groceries and everyday services.
- Look at the academic program’s specific buildings and experiential learning arrangements.
When visiting either campus, spend time away from the guided tour. Try a realistic route from a residence hall or nearby transit stop to an academic building, look at dining prices and ask students about finding housing after first year. Those details often have more influence on daily life than a campus-wide acceptance percentage.
First-year housing guarantee
UBC’s published Fall 2027 housing guarantee application deadline is May 1, 2027. The housing process is separate from admission acceptance, and applicants considering both campuses must complete the relevant separate residence applications.
A guarantee applies only when the applicant satisfies the university’s conditions. Students should confirm eligibility, deposit requirements and any deadlines in their individual housing communications.
How to Improve Your Chances of Admission to UBC
There is no reliable shortcut to being admitted to a competitive UBC degree. A strong application should demonstrate the academic prerequisites, substantial preparation and personal characteristics relevant to the chosen program.
Check degree requirements before finalizing Grade 12 courses
Missing mathematics, science or English prerequisites can make an application ineligible even if the overall average is strong.
Build a consistent academic record
UBC examines Grade 11 and 12 work, with emphasis on degree-related subjects. Choose challenging courses appropriate to your intended studies.
Write thoughtful Personal Profile answers
Describe real responsibilities, problem-solving and personal growth. Specific experiences are more convincing than broad lists of awards.
Use references who genuinely know your work
Ask permission before naming referees, and ensure they can speak accurately about the activities or responsibilities you describe.
Make the second-choice degree meaningful
If you list a second degree or campus choice, select one you would actually attend. Compare the academic pathways rather than choosing only based on acceptance-rate differences.
Do not miss earlier scholarship deadlines
Applicants seeking major entrance awards may need to finish the application in November or December, well before the general January 15 deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions About UBC Acceptance Rate 2026
1. What is the UBC acceptance rate in 2026?
UBC’s official 2025–26 Annual Enrolment Report lists undergraduate admission rates of 60% for Vancouver and 76% for Okanagan. These include applicants across undergraduate year levels, not just first-time freshmen, and represent offers to applicants’ preferred degree choice divided by completed applications.

Research methodology: UBC’s 2025–26 rates are drawn from its official Annual Enrolment Report, Table 1. They refer to undergraduate applicants across all year levels and use completed applications for the preferred degree choice as the denominator. Vancouver and Okanagan are displayed separately because UBC does not report one equally meaningful consolidated admission rate for all programs. SAT/ACT requirements and 2027 deadlines are taken from UBC’s current official admissions website. No unverified major-specific 2026 rate or universal high school GPA cutoff is presented as fact.
Final Assessment: Is UBC a Realistic University Choice?
UBC is competitive, but competitiveness differs considerably by campus and degree. Its official 2025–26 undergraduate admit rates were 60% for Vancouver and 76% for Okanagan. Those figures give useful institutional context without predicting the outcome of an individual application.
The strongest applicants meet the academic prerequisites for their chosen degree, maintain good Grade 11 and 12 results and submit an honest, well-developed Personal Profile when required. Students from the United States can benefit from the optional SAT/ACT policy, while international students must also plan for English proficiency, scholarships and study-permit requirements.
Above all, choose between Vancouver and Okanagan based on the actual degree, opportunities, campus environment and affordability. Being admitted is important, but finding the right academic and personal fit matters for the years after admission.
