Towson Acceptance Rate 2026: GPA, SAT & Admissions Guide

Towson University admits most qualified first-year applicants, but that does not make every application automatic. Academic rigor, grades, a thoughtful essay and the admission requirements of certain majors still matter.

For prospective Tigers, the real questions are how your academic record compares with the enrolled class, whether test-optional admission makes sense, which application deadline protects scholarship consideration and whether your chosen major requires a second admission process.

Quick answer: What is Towson University’s acceptance rate in 2026?

The latest complete official Common Data Set reports an 80.6% acceptance rate for the Fall 2025 entering class. Towson received 20,772 completed first-year applications, admitted 16,735 students and enrolled 2,908.

The university’s separate public 2025 Freshman Profile lists 22,123 applications and 16,736 admits, which produces approximately 75.7%. These two official presentations use different reported application totals. Towson does not explicitly reconcile the difference on those pages; the Common Data Set uses its standardized definition of completed, actionable applications.

For a consistent college-to-college comparison, this guide uses the 80.6% Common Data Set rate, while explaining the alternative university figure below. A finalized Fall 2026 first-year acceptance rate was not established in the official reports reviewed as of October 15, 2026.

For GPA and testing, the Fall 2025 Common Data Set reports an average enrolled GPA of 3.81 and a 920–1230 middle-50% SAT range among students who submitted scores. Towson is permanently test-optional.

Towson Acceptance Rate for Maryland and Out-of-State Students

As a public university, Towson distinguishes Maryland residency for tuition purposes. Its Common Data Set also reports a breakdown of applicants by in-state and out-of-state physical address.

Fall 2025 categoryAppliedAdmittedCalculated acceptance rateEnrolled
In-state applicants 15,452 12,418 80.4% 2,513
Out-of-state applicants 4,880 3,914 80.2% 325
Overall, including other/unknown classifications 20,772 16,735 80.6% 2,908

The admission rates for the two reported residency groups are almost identical. That is useful context for students applying from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware or elsewhere outside Maryland.

However, the residency rows do not sum to the overall applicant and admit totals because some records were not reported under those two address categories. The overall rate therefore must be calculated from the overall totals, not reconstructed only from the displayed residency groups.

The university’s public freshman profile says 88% of the enrolled 2025 freshman class were Maryland residents, while 12% came from outside Maryland, including 27 other states and 20 countries.

Maryland applicant insight:

If you attend school in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford County, Howard County or another Maryland district, do not assume that being local replaces good academic preparation. The overall in-state and out-of-state admission rates are nearly the same. What matters more is whether your transcript demonstrates that you are prepared for college-level coursework.

What GPA Do You Need to Get Into Towson University?

Towson’s latest Common Data Set reports an average high school GPA of 3.81 for enrolled first-year students. Its separate freshman profile reports a 3.91 average weighted GPA among admitted applicants, with a middle-50% weighted GPA range of 3.52–4.25.

These are different groups and measurements. One describes students who enrolled; the other describes students who were admitted. A student should not interpret the 3.91 weighted average as a university-wide minimum admission requirement.

GPA distribution of enrolled freshmen

One number cannot represent everyone in an entering class. The Common Data Set reports the following distribution for Fall 2025 students who enrolled:

Reported high school GPA Share of enrolled students What it tells us
4.00 34.56% More than one-third reported a GPA at the top of the reported scale.
3.75–3.99 17.92% A substantial portion enrolled with very strong grades.
3.50–3.74 19.36% Another large group of academically well-prepared students.
3.25–3.49 16.88% Students below the overall GPA average are well represented.
3.00–3.24 9.49% A smaller but meaningful group of enrolled students.
2.50–2.99 1.69% Enrolled students also appeared below a 3.0 GPA.
2.00–2.49 0.10% Very few students were reported in this range.

Approximately 71.8% of enrolled students reported a GPA of 3.50 or higher. That demonstrates why Towson should not be described as a university where grades are irrelevant simply because its acceptance rate exceeds 80%.

Can you get into Towson with a 3.0 GPA?

A 3.0 is below the latest enrolled-student average, but admission cannot be determined from GPA alone. Towson evaluates the rigor of the student’s curriculum, grade trend, activities, essay and overall application.

A student who has steadily improved from ninth to twelfth grade may present a different academic story from a student with similar cumulative grades but declining performance.

Is a 3.5 GPA competitive?

A 3.5 is below Towson’s latest average but falls within a clearly represented segment of the enrolled class. The strength of the student’s courses and performance in college-preparatory subjects remains important.

What about a 4.0 GPA?

A 4.0 is academically strong, but not an automatic admission offer. Students still need to submit a complete application, follow the appropriate deadlines and satisfy program-specific requirements if they intend to enter a screened major.

GPA advice for applicants:

Towson says it evaluates GPA in the context of each student’s high school, considering weighted and unweighted GPAs where available. The university may recalculate GPAs from schools with different grading policies. Avoid assuming that two students with the same numerical GPA received identical academic preparation.

Does Towson care about class rank?

The 2025–26 Common Data Set marks class rank as important. Among students for whom class rank was provided, approximately 17% ranked in the top tenth and 46% in the top quarter.

However, only about 42% of entering students supplied class-rank information. The percentages should not be generalized to every freshman without noting that reporting limitation.

Towson SAT and ACT Scores: Is Testing Required in 2026–27?

Towson University is permanently test-optional. First-year applicants are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores for admission or general merit-scholarship consideration.

The university also states that choosing to submit a test score will not negatively affect an admission application.

Fall 2025 SAT and ACT scores

Test 25th percentile Median 75th percentile
SAT composite 920 1070 1230
SAT Reading and Writing 480 550 640
SAT Math 440 510 590
ACT composite 20 26 27
ACT Math 17 24 27
ACT English 18 25 27

20% submitted SAT

583 enrolled Fall 2025 freshmen submitted SAT scores, according to the Common Data Set.

1% submitted ACT

Only 17 enrolled students submitted ACT scores. Percentiles based on such a small group require particular caution.

Why does Towson’s freshman profile show a higher SAT range?

Its official 2025 Freshman Profile lists a 1020–1320 SAT middle-50% range and 24–30 ACT range for admitted students who submitted scores.

The Common Data Set uses students who enrolled, while the freshman profile uses an admitted-student group. These groups are not identical, and their scores can legitimately differ.

Do not confuse admitted and enrolled test scores.

The 920–1230 SAT range describes the middle half of enrolled Fall 2025 score-submitters. The 1020–1320 range describes the separate admitted-student profile. Neither is a minimum SAT requirement, and neither represents Towson applicants who did not submit scores.

Should you submit a 1000, 1100 or 1300 SAT?

Students with a 1300 SAT are above the latest Common Data Set’s enrolled-student 75th percentile. An 1100 is around the middle of the enrolled score-submitters, and a 1000 is within the reported middle-50% range.

But this is not a rule that every student should submit a particular score. Towson explicitly says scores are optional and submitted scores will not negatively affect admission. If you are uncertain about your academic record or how a score fits into your application, the university recommends speaking with an admissions counselor.

Does Towson superscore?

Yes. Towson’s freshman FAQs say it superscores both the SAT and ACT. Applicants who elect to submit results should follow the university’s instructions for sending official scores.

Official testing codes: SAT 5404; ACT 1718.

The admissions FAQ asks score-submitters to have official scores received by the November 1 Early Action deadline. If you plan to apply through a different admission track, confirm the appropriate score-processing policy directly with admissions.

High School Courses Required for Towson University

For standard freshman admission, Towson expects applicants to complete a general college-preparatory curriculum. The undergraduate catalog identifies the following subjects:

High school subjectExpected courseworkPractical detail
English 4 years Includes composition, English literature and American literature.
Mathematics 4 years Including Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.
Science 3 years At least two years must include laboratory science.
Social sciences 3 years Approved college-preparatory social science coursework.
Foreign language 2 years Some technology, computer science and sign-language courses may serve as substitutes.
Electives 6 units Relevant approved elective courses.

For applicants with a transcript that does not fully satisfy the expected pattern, Towson may offer admission with certain academic deficiencies to be resolved during the first term. That possibility does not guarantee conditional admission.

The university’s catalog also states that students admitted under this arrangement must complete the specified requirements or risk losing degree candidacy.

High school planning tip:

If your high school uses integrated mathematics or an unusual science sequence, ask your counselor to identify how the courses correspond to Towson’s published requirements. It is better to resolve questions about equivalency before the application deadline than to discover a missing requirement after receiving an offer.

What Does Towson Actually Consider When Reviewing Applications?

Towson uses a holistic admission review, but its Common Data Set gives a more precise breakdown of the university’s selection factors.

Admission factorOfficial importanceWhat applicants should do
High school GPA Very important Focus on strong performance and improvement across the transcript.
Course rigor Very important Choose appropriate college-preparatory courses within your school’s offerings.
Application essay Important Use specific details that reveal your perspective, decisions and writing ability.
Extracurricular activities Important Describe sustained involvement, responsibilities and achievements.
Class rank Important Provide accurate rank information if your school reports it.
SAT or ACT Considered if submitted Optional for both admission and merit scholarship review.
Talent or ability Considered May offer relevant context, especially for creative or specialized interests.
Character and personal qualities Considered Describe how you respond to challenges and work with others.
First-generation status Considered Provide accurate relevant context.
Work and volunteer experience Considered Include meaningful commitments outside the classroom.
Geographic and state residency Considered Residency is part of the general institutional review context.
Recommendation letters Not considered Not a standard selection factor according to the latest CDS.
Interview Not considered No general first-year interview is used in the published evaluation factors.
Legacy or alumni relationship Not considered Do not assume an alumnus relative improves the review.
Demonstrated interest Not considered Campus visits are for learning about fit, not for earning general admission points.

What does this mean for an ordinary applicant?

Imagine two students with similar GPAs. One has taken a demanding college-preparatory curriculum and writes thoughtfully about responsibilities at home or in school. Another has taken a less challenging schedule and submits an essay with little personal detail.

Towson’s stated priorities suggest that the students’ applications may be evaluated differently even when their GPAs look similar.

That does not allow anyone to predict which student will receive admission. It shows why Towson’s 80.6% acceptance rate should not be interpreted as a numerical admission guarantee.

What Towson does not count:

The Common Data Set marks recommendations, formal interviews, alumni relationships, religious affiliation and demonstrated interest as not considered in general admission. Applicants should not spend money on activities or visits believing those items automatically add admissions points.

Does Towson Nursing Have a Different Acceptance Rate?

Yes, Towson’s nursing pathway has a separate competitive admission process, but the university-wide first-year acceptance rate does not reveal the nursing major’s acceptance percentage.

This is one of the most important details for students who intend to become registered nurses.

Pre-nursing is not the same as full nursing-major admission

Towson’s Department of Nursing states that students who select nursing on the university application are initially classified as pre-nursing students.

They later apply separately to the basic/pre-licensure nursing major after completing the specified prerequisite courses and meeting other requirements.

Consequently, an incoming student’s acceptance letter from Towson University should not be mistaken for guaranteed placement in the clinical nursing major.

Minimum criteria for applying to the nursing major

RequirementOfficial criteriaWhy it matters
College credits At least 42 undergraduate credits earned Students generally prepare through pre-nursing coursework first.
Laboratory sciences Three completed laboratory science prerequisites with C or higher Science preparation is essential to eligibility.
English composition Completed with C or higher Required for application review.
TEAS Version 7 Proficient level or higher A major component of admission review.
Cumulative college GPA 3.0 or higher for the standard admission route Minimum eligibility is not a competitive admission guarantee.
Science GPA for Fall 2027 entry 3.0 required by the time admitted applicants enter the major New requirement relevant to the Fall 2027 nursing admission cycle.

What scores are actually competitive for nursing?

Towson publishes competitive averages based on its recent nursing-major applicants:

3.4–3.7 cumulative GPA

Recent competitive-average range for nursing-major applicants.

81–83% TEAS

Recent competitive-average TEAS performance.

3.2–3.5 science GPA

Recent competitive-average science performance.

Separate nursing application

Required even for students already studying at Towson University.

These are historical competitive averages, not hard cutoffs and not program acceptance rates. The actual competition changes with the number and strength of applications each term.

Nursing application timing

Towson’s nursing department reports that the Spring 2027 program application closed in August 2026. Its Fall 2027 nursing application is expected to open by mid-November 2026.

For fall nursing-major admission, the department lists a December 15 early application deadline and January 15 final application deadline, with separate deadlines for supporting documents.

These dates apply to the later nursing-major application, not to high school seniors simply applying to Towson as first-year students.

Nursing applicant advice:

If you are entering Towson as a freshman interested in nursing, plan your first two years with a pre-nursing adviser. Track science prerequisites, grades and TEAS preparation from the beginning. Do not assume that simply earning 42 credits or a 3.0 GPA guarantees acceptance into the nursing major.

Official sources: nursing admission requirements and recommended first- and second-year nursing preparation.

Other screened or competitive majors

Some additional Towson majors require departmental admission criteria, auditions or portfolios. Towson’s catalog identifies Art, Music and Dance among programs that can require extra review.

For example, the Dance Performance and Choreography BFA requires a departmental dance audition. Students must also complete first-year foundational dance courses with a B average or higher to continue in the major.

Thus, the general university admission rate should never be presented as a separate acceptance rate for Nursing, Dance, Music or another competitive program without verified program-level admissions data.

Towson’s guidance on screened and competitive majors.

Is Towson Honors College Harder to Get Into?

Towson’s Honors College has a separate application and a more academically concentrated applicant pool. The college states that less than 5% of the incoming freshman class joins Honors each year.

Honors admission is holistic and test-optional. There is no published minimum GPA required simply to apply.

2026 Honors College GPA profile

Honors entering classUnweighted GPA middle 50%Weighted GPA middle 50%
20263.69–3.964.11–4.63
20253.64–3.964.08–4.61
20243.75–3.984.15–4.66

These figures describe admitted Honors students and are not mandatory cutoffs.

What must Honors applicants submit?

The Honors College requires a separate essay of approximately 500–750 words responding to one of the published Honors prompts, plus an activities list.

Students can submit standardized test results, but scores remain optional.

To receive regular freshman consideration for Fall 2027, applicants should complete both their university and Honors requirements by November 1, 2026.

Honors application insight:

Honors emphasizes the quality of involvement, reflection and authenticity. A student who spent two years deeply involved in one community project may have more to say than someone who lists ten organizations without explaining any real contribution.

Towson Application Deadlines for Fall 2027

Students applying during the 2026–27 admission season for Fall 2027 enrollment should pay particular attention to the November Early Action deadline.

Towson states that a complete Fall 2027 application by November 1 is necessary for consideration for its standard freshman merit scholarships. The Honors College also uses this deadline.

November 1, 2026 — Early Action

Complete the freshman application, pay the applicable fee and ensure required documents are submitted.

November 1, 2026 — Merit Scholarship and Honors College deadline

Applicants must meet the appropriate requirements for automatic merit consideration and Honors review.

November 1, 2026 — Spring 2027 freshman deadline

Applies to students seeking to enter in the spring rather than Fall 2027.

By mid-January 2027 — Early Action decisions

Towson’s current freshman application page states that completed Early Action applicants receive decisions by mid-January.

February 1, 2027 — Regular Decision deadline

Last regular freshman application deadline for Fall 2027.

February 1, 2027 — FAFSA priority deadline

Important for maximum consideration for Towson’s need-based grants for 2027–28.

By early March 2027 — Regular Decision results

Towson says Regular Decision applicants should generally receive decisions by early March.

June 1, 2027 — International freshman deadline

Later application cutoff for international freshmen; scholarship consideration generally requires completion by February 1.

May 1, 2027 — Enrollment deposit

Standard freshman enrollment reply and the university’s published $200 enrollment deposit deadline.

May 4, 2027 — Housing application and deposit

Current freshman deadline page lists May 4 and a $350 housing deposit. Check your admitted-student portal for any updated instructions.

Does Towson have Early Decision?

No. The latest Common Data Set identifies Early Action as nonbinding and does not list a binding Early Decision plan.

Does Early Action improve your chance of admission?

For Fall 2025, the Common Data Set reported 15,387 Early Action applications and 12,668 Early Action admits, giving a calculated Early Action admit rate of approximately 82.3%.

That is slightly above the university’s overall Common Data Set acceptance rate of 80.6%.

But it does not establish a causal advantage for a particular student. The Early Action applicant group differs from the overall applicant pool. Its most clearly established practical benefit is timely review and access to merit-scholarship and Honors College consideration.

Deadline discrepancy in historical reports:

The Fall 2025 Common Data Set lists November 15 as its historical Early Action closing date, while Towson’s current Fall 2027 first-year admissions page specifies November 1, 2026. Applicants should use the current official cycle deadline, not automatically copy the older Common Data Set date.

How to Apply to Towson University

First-year students can apply through Towson’s official undergraduate application route, including the Common Application. The general application fee is $50, with applicable fee waivers for eligible students.

Confirm the correct student category

Students who are still in high school are generally considered first-year applicants, even if they earned college credit through dual-enrollment programs before graduating.

Complete the application and personal essay

Provide accurate personal information, academic history, activities and the required essay. Towson’s admissions team emphasizes an authentic response that communicates the student’s personality and aspirations.

Arrange official transcripts

The university requires official high school records. After graduation, final official transcripts must verify successful completion of high school.

Decide whether to submit SAT or ACT scores

Towson is permanently test-optional and says submitted scores will not negatively affect the application. Students who choose to submit scores must follow the official score-reporting instructions.

Apply separately to Honors if interested

Prospective Honors students must complete the Honors requirements in addition to their general university application. The Honors process is not automatic simply because a student’s GPA is high.

Track the application in the TU Admissions Portal

Use the portal to check whether the application, fee and transcript were received. Towson says its account activation instructions generally arrive within about 24 business hours after the application is submitted.

What makes a strong Towson admission essay?

Towson explicitly says the application essay is one of the primary opportunities to learn about an applicant as a person.

Effective essays do not need a dramatic life event. A thoughtful reflection about working after school, overcoming an academic challenge, caring for a sibling, performing in a school production or developing a genuine interest in a subject can be relevant.

The essay should show clear revision and editing. A generic paragraph about how Towson is an excellent university is not a substitute for telling a meaningful story.

A practical writing approach:

Choose one experience you can describe vividly. Explain what happened, the responsibility you took, what was difficult and what you learned. Then use the rest of the application to provide information the essay does not already cover.

Towson University Transfer Acceptance Rate and Requirements

Transfer applicants have a separate admission process. Towson’s Fall 2025 Common Data Set reported 2,934 transfer applicants and 2,675 admitted transfers, producing a calculated transfer acceptance rate of 91.2%.

2,934Transfer applicants
2,675Transfer admits
91.2%Calculated transfer rate

What GPA is required to transfer?

Towson’s transfer admissions office states that students must have at least a 2.0 cumulative college GPA to be eligible for transfer admission.

However, the exact requirements depend on credit history and intended major. Students with fewer than 24 transferable credits must also comply with the applicable freshman admission requirements.

Selected majors may impose additional standards or deadlines, so a general transfer acceptance percentage does not guarantee access to every program.

Fall 2027 transfer deadlines

Towson’s active transfer-applicant page lists March 1, 2027 for Early Action, Honors and merit-scholarship consideration, and June 1, 2027 for Regular Decision.

Its separate transfer-deadlines page currently lists a later July 27 regular-decision date. Because the two official pages differ, applicants should aim for the earlier June 1 date or obtain confirmation directly from Towson Transfer Admissions before relying on a later deadline.

Transfer pathways from Maryland community colleges

Towson’s catalog provides priority-admission guidance, subject to available space, for eligible transfers from Maryland community colleges with at least 56 transferable credits, good academic standing and the applicable GPA requirements.

This does not supersede extra admission rules for programs such as Nursing.

Community-college transfer tip:

If you’re studying at Community College of Baltimore County, Harford Community College, Howard Community College or another Maryland institution, check course equivalencies before planning your final semester. Transferring 60 credits is helpful only if those credits also satisfy the right degree and major requirements.

Official references: transfer applicant requirements and 2025–26 transfer admission CDS (PDF).

Does Towson Use an Admissions Waitlist?

According to the Fall 2025 Common Data Set, Towson University did not operate a standard first-year admissions waiting list in that cycle.

Consequently, there is no legitimate Fall 2025 waitlist admission rate to calculate from the official report.

Applicants whose decision is still pending should check the university portal for missing materials or review status. A delayed decision is not necessarily a waitlist decision.

Towson Tuition, Scholarships and Financial Aid

For many students, the central decision after admission is affordability. Towson’s status as a Maryland public university makes residency important for tuition, even though the overall Fall 2025 resident and nonresident admission rates were very similar.

Official 2026–27 estimated cost of attendance

Budget item Maryland resident, on/off campus Out-of-state, on/off campus Maryland resident living with parents
Tuition and fees $12,690 $32,948 $12,690
Housing and food allowance $16,366 $16,366 $3,182
Books and supplies $960 $960 $960
Transportation $2,534 $2,534 $2,534
Personal expenses $970 $970 $970
Estimated federal loan fees $262 $262 $262
Total annual budget $33,782 $54,040 $20,598

These figures are financial-aid planning budgets, not necessarily what every student will pay. The cost of attendance includes direct university charges and estimated indirect expenses.

The university notes that many first-year students live in shared residence hall rooms costing less than the premium housing allowance used in its official budget.

Additional costs for selected majors

Towson charges differential tuition for qualifying upper-level courses in Nursing, the College of Business and Economics, and the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

The 2026–27 cost page lists an additional $63 per unit, with caps applying to this differential charge. Students in those programs should consider these costs when budgeting beyond the first year.

New Mid-Atlantic tuition beginning Fall 2027

Towson has announced a new Mid-Atlantic undergraduate tuition rate for Fall 2027 for qualifying students residing in states near Maryland.

The university says eligible applicants will receive information directly from Admissions. Detailed eligibility and final individual pricing should be confirmed rather than inferred from proximity alone.

Regional applicant cost tip:

If you live in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey or another nearby state, ask whether the new Mid-Atlantic rate applies to your residency and entering term. Do not automatically budget the regular nonresident price without checking, but do not assume eligibility until the university confirms it.

FAFSA, merit aid and scholarship deadlines

Towson’s federal school code is 002099.

For applicants beginning in Fall 2027:

  • Submit a complete freshman application by November 1, 2026 for merit-scholarship consideration.
  • Submit the 2027–28 FAFSA by February 1, 2027 for priority consideration for TU’s need-based grants.
  • Review applicable Maryland state-aid programs through the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
  • Check the student portal for additional documentation requests and financial-aid updates.

The university’s general admission scholarships are competitive and do not require a separate application for eligible first-year students who complete the admission application on time.

Scholarships are not automatic for every admit.

Meeting the admission requirements or earning a GPA above the university average does not guarantee a particular merit award. Families should compare gift aid, possible loans, housing costs and other expenses before deciding whether an offer is financially manageable.

Towson, Maryland: Local Tips for Campus Visits and Student Life

Towson University’s main campus is in Towson, Maryland, approximately eight miles north of downtown Baltimore. It combines a large university setting with proximity to Baltimore’s cultural, healthcare, business and professional opportunities.

For students who have only seen photographs, the university’s location can be easy to misunderstand. Towson is not in central Baltimore, but it also is not an isolated rural campus.

Where to arrive

Towson University’s main address is 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252.

The undergraduate admissions office is in the Enrollment Services Building. Registered visitors should follow the exact check-in information provided by the tour confirmation.

Travel from BWI Airport

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is the principal nearby airport. Towson estimates a journey of approximately 45 minutes to campus in typical non-rush-hour conditions.

Plan extra time during commuter traffic or inclement weather.

Parking at Towson University

The university uses several visitor parking garages and lots, including Union Garage, Towsontown Garage, Glen Garage and designated campus visitor locations.

For the 2026–27 parking year, Towson lists a standard $15 daily visitor parking rate at many campus locations, but organized admissions tours may have specific arrangements.

The safest approach is to register for a tour and follow the parking directions sent by Admissions.

A visitor permit purchased for a stadium or West Village parking zone does not necessarily authorize parking on the core campus during restricted weekday hours. Always check the zone and permit restrictions.

Getting around without a car

Towson provides free university shuttle services for students, faculty and staff, including on-campus and selected off-campus routes.

Current routes include West Village–Core, Gold, Lake–Walker, Kenilworth–Armory, Goucher–Loch Raven and other routes operating at different times.

The university also promotes the free Towson Loop service within Towson’s central business district and the Baltimore Collegetown Shuttle for travel between participating campuses and destinations.

Towson’s SafeRide service for the 2026–27 academic year operates from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week, with requests through the university’s safety transportation number.

Commuter-student insight:

If you plan to commute from Parkville, Lutherville, Timonium, Cockeysville or Baltimore, check the actual bus or driving schedule at the times you would attend class. A trip that looks short on a map may be less convenient during the morning commute or after evening laboratories.

Ask about the right campus facilities

A general tour can introduce Towson’s campus layout, but applicants in Nursing, Art, Music, Dance, Business or Computer Science should try to understand the facilities and program pathways that affect their chosen field.

For nursing, ask about prerequisites, separate major admission and clinical progression. For performing arts, ask about auditions and required rehearsals. For business or computing, ask about advising and differential tuition.

What should parents ask current students?

During a campus visit, do not spend the entire time discussing rankings or acceptance rates. Ask a current student how they organize their first-year timetable, where they study between classes and what they wish they had understood before moving in.

For students from outside Maryland, it is useful to ask about weekend activities, transportation into Baltimore, residence hall arrangements and the availability of advising.

A practical visit question:

Ask your guide, “What was harder about your first semester than you expected?” The answer may reveal something valuable about coursework, time management, commuting, social adjustment or campus support. Those experiences often matter more to college success than a school’s admission percentage.

Official visitor information: directions and transit, parking rates and visitor restrictions, campus shuttle services, and campus visit programs.

Beyond Getting Accepted: What Should Towson Students Evaluate?

The admission rate tells you how many applicants received offers, but it does not show how effectively students transition to university life.

Towson’s latest Common Data Set reports a first-to-second-year retention rate of approximately 83.2% for the referenced entering cohort. This provides useful context when considering academic persistence, support services and student adjustment.

Prospective students should investigate:

  • Academic advising for first-year and undecided students.
  • Course sequencing for their intended major.
  • Whether any major requires a second admission process.
  • Tutoring, writing, mathematics and related academic support.
  • Residence hall and commuting arrangements.
  • The affordability of remaining enrolled through graduation.

A university can be a strong fit for someone with an average academic record and a clear plan. It may be a weaker fit for someone who chooses it only because the admission percentage looks reassuring.

Frequently Asked Questions About Towson Acceptance Rate 2026

What is Towson University’s acceptance rate in 2026?

Research and editorial review: October 15, 2026. The headline 80.6% acceptance rate is calculated from Towson’s Fall 2025 Common Data Set. Towson’s separate public 2025 Freshman Profile yields approximately 75.7% because it reports a larger total application pool. The figures are labeled by source and cohort rather than combined. GPA, test-score, Honors and nursing data represent different populations and must not be interpreted as interchangeable admission probabilities.

Final Assessment: Is Towson a Realistic College Choice?

Towson University is an attainable option for many academically prepared students, with a latest standardized first-year acceptance rate of 80.6%. Yet its entering-class academic profile, emphasis on rigorous coursework and separate admission requirements for some majors show why students should not mistake accessibility for automatic admission.

The strongest plan is to maintain good grades in a college-preparatory curriculum, prepare a genuine application essay, verify required documents and apply by November 1 if you want Early Action, merit-scholarship or Honors College consideration.

For prospective nursing students, it is essential to understand the separate competitive major process before committing. For students from outside Maryland, the financial picture deserves equal attention, especially with Towson’s announced Mid-Atlantic tuition option beginning in Fall 2027.

Finally, make time to understand daily life in Towson: the commute, academic support, housing, campus community and the opportunities available near Baltimore. Getting accepted matters, but choosing a university where you can succeed and feel at home matters much longer.
